[ he pauses, because man he doesn't usually have to give these kinds of talks? he will stare at the ceiling a moment longer. ]

[ a hum ] ... Are you scared?

I think... yes. I don't want to die again.

Wanting to live... that's normal.

[ good morning, nameless! here comes lin jingheng with a cigarette hanging from his lips and nudging the dorm room door shut. he has a plastic bag over one arm and sets said bag down on one of the tiny desks. ]

... Hungry, Cosmos?

[pathopen]

[He's writing in a notebook that he probably got from one of the bookstores, but when Lin Jingheng comes in he looks up.

What a good question. Is he hungry? There's a pause to consider it, before he nods.]

A little bit. Are you?

[awol]

[ he pauses also considering. ]

... I think so. I'm too used to nutrition syringes. Don't feel the hunger much anymore.

[ he will remove two little sandwich boxes from the bag and two drinks! one is a fun, beachy fruit juice and the other is just a bottle of water, the former of which he sets closest to nameless along with the sandwich. ]

What are you writing?

[pathopen]

It's a journal. Writing seemed like a good way to remember Eto.

[He does take the cute fruit juice.]

I think she'd like that.

[ he will put out his cigarette and start to unbox his own sandwich, sitting down in his chair. ]

I'd be curious as to what she'd write about this place.

I also wonder... Maybe she would make it into a novel?

Would fit the genre she wrote, I think.

Guess you're the one who's going to have to write it, hm?

I don't know how to write a novel. Is it a skill people learn?

[awol]

[ he shrugs a bit, pondering this because like, yeah, but also. why not? ]

Some. Most start out without anything at all, really.

[Well, that's about the same as him. At least he got exist with the ability to write. That's a good start.]

[ yeah, exactly. we're thinking in net positives.

he just takes a bite of his sandwich. he could easily toss this to lu bixing, but... he throws that idea right into the trash actually. nah. he'll do this. he adjusts himself in his uncomfortable dorm chair. ]

[It's uncomfortable, but not as uncomfortable as living in a cold water tank.]

... I guess we start with arriving in hell?

[Begin at the beginning. Or the end, if we consider they're all dead here.]

[ oh definitely not as uncomfortable as being in a tank or an ecopod. ]

From the beginning. That's right. Would make for an auspicious start.

Will you write it from your own perspective?

Is it common for novels to be in somebody's perspective?

If it wasn't my own... I don't know how I'd write it.

[awol]

[ he nods ]

Usually from the perspective of the writer, or the character they choose to write about.

[pathopen]

It makes the most sense to write it that way then.

[... Does he have to write about everybody? He hasn't spoken to everybody... What if he mischaracterized people? That's so rude.]

[awol]

[ he nods ]

Writing about your personal experiences here would make for a good book.

Remains honest.

[ he tilts his head ]

I think everything I write is going to be honest, no matter what.

[Nobody has taught him to lie.]

... I know this place can be unpleasant.

But Eto enjoyed writing. [ a sort of hesitant beat. hm. ] So maybe there's part of being here that you'll like writing about.

I've liked getting to know people. Writing about that sounds nice.

[Even if people do also keep dying.]

Then maybe start there.

It's a good way to remember them. And a good way to learn as well.
